Cleanliness IS Next to Godliness By Cozy Girl Recently my husband had emergency hernia surgery. Once he got home we expected him to gain strength and feel better each day. Well, that didn't happen. In fact, two weeks later when it was time to get his sutures out, he felt worse. The doctor was concerned and decided to do a culture. The bad news is it came back that my husband had a serious staph infection. He was immediately started on daily infusions of antibiotics. After a week I was trained to give him his antibiotics at home. We are now into the forth week and he is much improved and we, and the doctors, feel we have the staph under control and hopefully on the way out. Now, the point of this intel is to say....PLEASE make sure that all the doctors and nurses who have contact with you for whatever reason WASH THEIR HANDS! Staph is rampant in hospitals and while they are vigilant in trying to keep it at bay, you, as the patient, have the responsibility to take charge of your care. Don't worry about what they may think when you insist they wash up. You are one who can be infected. Staph can be life threatening so I think it is certainly your prerogative to ask for clean hands. I guess our mothers and grandmothers were right. Cleanliness IS next to Godliness.
